Interpersonal and communication skills development in nursing preceptorship education and training programmes: a scoping review protocol

The preceptorship model is an education-focused for teaching and learning within a clinical environment in nursing. It formulates professional educational relationship between staff nurse (preceptor) student based on the provision of providing patient care. Preceptorship widely acknowledged literature as positive pedagogical approach nursing education terms knowledge skill acquisition, confidence, socialisation undergraduate students. However, also reports negative interpersonal experiences this resulting some cases, experiences. Therefore, authors set out to examine what strategies are being implemented by educators encourage development communication skills facilitating relationships preceptor, patient. This paper outlines protocol exploratory scoping review that aims systematically comprehensively map available published unpublished develop training programmes. To conduct systematic comprehensive review, will be guided Joanna Briggs Institute Arksey & O’ Malley (2005) six-stage iterative framework, well PRISMA-ScR framework guidelines, ensure quality methodological reporting approaches review. anticipated results inform current practices developing programmes identify any worthy further consideration future research.
